Screed
Floor leveling or base layer that sets height, falls, flatness, and support for final floor finishes.
What screed does
Screed forms the floor base for final finishes. It can set levels, falls to drains, flatness, and load support. In wet areas it also interacts with waterproofing and drain height.
Why screed errors become expensive
Screed problems are usually discovered when doors do not clear, tiles lippage, water ponds, or finish materials crack. By that point the project may already have bought and scheduled expensive visible finishes.
Common mistakes
- Falls are formed by tile adhesive instead of the screed layer.
- Curing and moisture content are ignored before sensitive finishes start.
- Level transitions at doors and thresholds are not coordinated early.
What to inspect
- Finished floor levels and transitions.
- Flatness, hollows, cracks, and curing condition.
- Drain falls and waterproofing compatibility in wet zones.
